"Extra Baggage" was composed (music & lyrics) by Marilyn Harris and released on her Wrightwood Records CD BETWEEN THE LINES. This arrangement for Jazz Band and Vocal by Mark Wolfram is an expansion of his original 10-horn chart from the CD recording.
Although the groove is that of a straight-ahead swing tune, it has all of the harmonic surprises and lyric twists that are the hallmark of Marilyn's writing. Big, full ensemble punches and riffs are highlighted by the Jazz Guitar solo work of former Blood, Sweat & Tears guitarist George Wadenius - as transcribed from the CD.
The instrumentation is as follows: 5 Saxophones (A-A-T-T-B), 4 Trumpets, 3 Tenor Trombones, 1 Bass
Trombone, Jazz Guitar, Ac. Piano, Ac. Bass, Drums,
Congas, Vocal (range: G2 to B3). The duration is approximately 3 minutes.
