"Rhapsody (for Unaccompanied Violoncello)" was composed by Mark Wolfram as a graduation gift for
his nephew Paul David Wolfram (a 'Cello major) from Lawrence
College in Appleton, Wisconsin. Mr. Wolfram adds, "My good friend Jesse Levy, to whom I dedicated this composition, provided invaluable technical and musical feedback for which I'm very grateful."
Based on the concept of a contemporary
approach to a Bach 'Cello Suite, this challenging work features
many traditionally idiomatic 'cello techniques applied to a contemporary
serial composition.
"Rhapsody (for Unaccompanied Violoncello)"
is a GRADE 5 Violoncello solo and highlights the performer's
mastery of complex rhythms, large intervallic jumps, contrasting
dynamics and several different contemporary performance techniques.
This composition provides the performer with an opportunity to
highlight tone, musicallity and audience pleasing technique -
perfect for the recital hall or the salon. The duration
is approximately 10½ minutes.
